There Are Many Nursing Job Descriptions In The Health Care Industry
Health care workers comprise the largest segment of the work population in the United States. This trend is expected to grow as the aging population grows larger and needs more medical care. There are many nursing job descriptions and classifications that exist in the health care industry. These categories are also expected to expand as the need for trained nurses increases and the duties and responsibilities of these professionals change and are adjusted in the work force. All of these health care workers are needed in the medical profession and require various degrees of training and skills. All of these positions are very rewarding careers and the need for these nurse professionals is also expected to grow in the coming years. The nurse assistant or sometimes called a nurses aide performs various duties as assigned by the medical staff. They perform many duties under the supervision of the nursing staff. Some of these duties include: answering patient calls, taking blood pressures. serving meals, helping patients dress, helping to bathe patients, monitoring respiration, making beds, and reporting on patients to the nursing staff. These nursing job descriptions may change from state to state and from facility to facility but this is a good picture of what the nursing assistant does . The registered nurse is by far the most common type of nurse that is employed in hospital settings. This nurse is required to pass state certification exams and usually is required to have a degree or at least a diploma from a school of nursing. The RN works directly with the patient and the family. The registered nurse performs patient evaluations and provides direct care under the supervision and orders of a medical doctor. The RN is involved in the day to day care of a patient and in the health care plans for patients on a direct basis. Another one of the nursing job descriptions that is a recent addition to the nursing care industry is the nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner actually provides primary care for patients. They are the first in line to diagnose and treat patients with injuries and illness. They have taken over the responsibilities that use to be entirely the responsibility of a medical doctor. In some cases they are allowed to prescribe medications. The nurse practitioner usually must have at least a B.S. Degree. In some cases they are referred to as certified nurse practitioners in special fields of nursing. There is also a head nurse who generally has responsibility for a team of nurses in a department or a particular floor of a hospital. They also generally have advanced degrees and nursing and have had many years of experience to qualify for such a position.
